Chapter 19: The “Why” and “How” the Lord sent Me to the Iranian Embassy on May 22, 2000
The following are Details of the Rhema Word God gave me as to “Why” I was to go to the Iranian Embassy on May 22-23, 2000 and “How” God opened the door for me to be at the Iranian Embassy on May 22-23, 2000 as the IDF “Unexpectedly,” at least to the world’s way of thinking, withdrew from Lebanon’s Security Zone back onto the safety of Israeli soil.
By Way of History:
At the time I went to the Iranian Embassy – the Iranian Diplomats had already been ordered to leave the United States at which point the U.S. State Department was responsible for the upkeep of the Embassy. And, it was at this point in time the U.S. State Department rented the Vacant Embassy to Pastor Ruth Schofield to help pay for the upkeep of the Iranian Embassy.
After the United States severed Diplomatic Relations with Iran the State Department became legally responsible for the upkeep of the Iranian Embassy. And, one of the ways the State Department raises the necessary funds for the upkeep of any vacant Embassy is to turn the vacated Embassy into a rental property until relations with that particular country are restored. And, so it was with the Iranian Embassy. The State Department rented the Embassy to Pastor Ruth Schofield who renamed the Embassy “Prince of Peace Embassy Ministries” (documentation is at the end of this chapter to confirm the Embassy was rented to Pastor Schofield). As part of her ministry Pastor Schofield would welcome other Christian Ministries to hold gatherings at the Embassy, which is how I came to be at the Iranian Embassy on May 22-23, 2000 on the same day that the IDF “unexpectedly” started to withdraw from the Security Zone inside Lebanon back into the safety of Israel.
The withdrawal may have been “unexpected,” however, it was not just happenstance!
Key Events in the History of Israel that also Occurred in Persia are Recorded in 2 Chronicles and the Book of Esther: The accounts as recorded in 2 Chronicles and the Book of Esther reveals how God used Persian Kings and the Persian Empire to accomplish His will here on earth, for example the Persian Kings Cyrus and Ahasuerus (Xerxes) of the Medo-Persian Empire. God used Cyrus, the King of the Medo-Persian Empire, to set His captive people free and to fund the rebuilding of His Temple (2 Chronicles 36: 22-23). However, when Cyrus released the Jews to their homeland, not all of the Jewish people elected to return to Judah, for example, Mordecai and his niece Esther. Later, God used the Persian King Xerxes to deliver the Jewish people from mass destruction at the hands of Haman (Book of Ester 1-9). These are only two examples of how God will never forsake the Nation of Israel.
And, that brings me to the Iranian Embassy on May 22-23, 2000.
The Rhema Word and the Book of Esther 8:9
May 15, 2000: I was at the Iranian Embassy on May 22-23 but I need to begin with May 15, 2000 because it was on May 15 as I was reading the Book of Esther which took place in Persia (modern-day Iran – hence the connection to the Iranian Embassy) that the Lord quickened me to the “third month” ofn the “twenty-third” day in Esther 8:9.
Esther 8:9 9 So the king's scribes were called at that time, in the third month, which is the month of Sivan, on the twenty-third day; and it was written, according to all that Mordecai commanded, to the Jews, the satraps, the governors, and the princes of the provinces from India to Ethiopia, one hundred and twenty-seven provinces in all, to every province in its own script, to every people in their own language, and to the Jews in their own script and language. NKJV
Rhema Word: And, it was at that point in time, as I was reading Esther 8:9, that the Lord gave me the understanding that I was to be at the Iranian Embassy at the beginning of May 23, 2000 (the modern-day equivalent to the 23rd day of the third month of Sivan) to pray for the safe withdrawal of the IDF from Lebanon back into Israel, which at the time the International Community thought would take place on July 7, 2000 – not May 22, 2000. To ensure that I was at the Iranian Embassy on May 23, 2000 meant that I would have to be at the Iranian Embassy on May 22, 2000 when the sun set – and I was! See the copy of the invitation included in this chapter.
A Rhema Word is when the Lord quickens us in our spirit to a particular Scripture that we know in some way applies to our present-day situation. Those of us who understand the importance and significance of a Rhema Word know how important it is that we apply the truths of that particular Scripture to our present circumstances. God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. In other words we know that the Lord speaks to us through His Word concerning our present-day circumstances just as God spoke to the present-day circumstances of those generations before us.
Well, you can imagine my joy when just a few days after the Lord quickened me to Esther 8:9 that I was invited to go to the Iranians Embassy on May 23 that I actually received an invitation to join other Believers at the Iranian Embassy on May 22, 2000 at 7:00 pm. Given that I was at the Embassy well until after sunset that means I was at the Embassy on May 22 and May 23. And, if the invitation was not enough joy in itself, the postmark on the envelope was May 15, 2000, the day the Lord quickened me to go to the Iranian Embassy on May 23, 2000.
I had never met the gentleman who invited me to the Iranian Embassy and I never found out who suggested that he send me an invitation to the gathering at the Iranian Embassy on the evening of May 22, 2000. A copy of both the envelope and invitation follow below.
May 23: According to the following calendar taken from the NIV Study Notes, the modern-day equivalent of the Old Testament date for the third month of Sivan is May-June. In other words, given that Esther took place in modern-day Iran and the modern-day equivalent of the 23rd day of the third month was May-June I knew in my spirit that I was to be at the Iranian Embassy in Washington, DC on May 23, 2000 to intercede for the safety of the IDF as they withdrew from the “Security Zone” inside Lebanon back across the border back into Israel on July 7, 2000, which at that point in time was the official date for the IDF to withdraw from Lebanon.
However, I didn’t personally know Ruth Schofield so I wasn’t sure how I would be able to get into the Embassy – however, I was certain that the Lord had a plan. |

Divine Intervention: Going back to May 15, 2000, I mentioned earlier that it was on May 15 that the Lord gave me the understanding that I was to be at the Iranian Embassy on May 23; well, according to the postmark on the envelope, the invitation for me to be a guest at the Embassy on May 22, 2000 was actually mailed to me on May 15, 2000.
You can see from the copy of both the invitation and envelope that the invitation was mailed on May 15, 2000 and that I was at the Iranian Embassy on May 22, 2000. Further, there is documentation included in this chapter that confirms that the withdrawal that began on May 22, 2000 was unexpected and had only been decided on the morning of May 22 (Israeli time, which was 7 hours ahead of the time here in the U.S.) that the withdrawal would be on the evening of May 22, 2000.
I will begin with the envelope and invitation from “Christ Jesus Ministry” who invited me to attend a Convocation that Pastor Schofield was allowing them to host that evening of May 22, 2000 at the Iranian Embassy. Note that the postmark on the invitation’s envelope was May 15, 2000 – Eight Days Before Israeli’s Prime Minister made the decision to begin the withdrawal on May 22, 2000 instead of the scheduled July 7, 2000 withdrawal.
The postmark of May 15, 2000 on the envelope in which the invitation came in is significant because it was mailed to me 8 days before Prime Minister Barak even made the unexpected decision for the IDF to withdraw from the Security Zone on the night of May 22, 2000 – the same night I was at the Embassy.
More to the point, there is no way that either the "Christ Jesus Ministry” who invited me to the gathering at "The Prince of Peace Embassy" or I could have known that Prime Minister Barak would order the IDF to withdraw from the Security Zone beginning on May 22, 2000 – the same night we gathered at the Iranian Embassy. After all, Prime Minister Barak didn't even know on May 15, 2000 when the invitation was mailed to me that on the morning of May 22 he would order the IDF to begin to withdraw later that same day on May 22, 2000.
Divine Intervention: Needless to say, the Lord knew that after Prime Minister Barak found out on May 22 that Hezbollah was making preparations to turn the July 7 withdrawal into “an inferno” as the IDF withdrew, that Prime Minister Barak would order the IDF to begin their withdrawal that very night. Hence, that is why the Lord opened the door for me to stand in the Gateway of Israel’s enemies at the Iranian Embassy and in the Name of Jesus, by His power and authority, to speak into the spiritual realm and command the principalities, specifically the Prince and Kings of Persia (Daniel 10) operating through Hezbollah to move away from the Fatima Gate as the IDF withdrew from Lebanon back onto the safety of Israeli soil.
The Heart of the Powerful, the warrior, and the Prime Minister of a nation are all in the Hand of God. God can and does influence them in their thoughts and decisions. God can check them in their way of thinking – He can change or even reverse their course of action. And, so it was with Prime Minister Barak.

The Lord knew that Prime Minister Barak would start the withdrawal on the evening of May 22, 2000 – because the Lord is the one who placed it on Barak’s heart to do so.
God’s thoughts and ways are not the thoughts and ways of man (Isaiah 55:8)
Isaiah 55:8-9 8 “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the LORD. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. 9 For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so My ways are higher than your ways and My thoughts higher than your thoughts. NLT
Not only did Prime Minister Barak make the right decision – he made the “Righteous” decision regardless of what anyone thinks!

Note that the Post Mark of May 15 is “Eight” days before Prime Minister Barak found out on May 22 about Hezbollah’s plans to attack the IDF as they withdrew from Lebanon on July 7, 2000.
Needless to say, there is no way that either the "Christ Jesus Ministry,” who invited me to the gathering at "The Prince of Peace Embassy" (the former Iranian Embassy) or I could have known that Prime Minister Barak would order the IDF to withdraw from the Security Zone beginning on May 22, 2000 – the same evening we gathered at the Iranian Embassy.
After all, Prime Minister Barak didn't even know on May 15, 2000 when the invitation was mailed to me that he would order the IDF to begin to withdraw on May 22, 2000. Prime Minister Barak only made the decision to withdraw on May 22, 2000 after he found out earlier that day of Hezbollah’s plans.
More to the Point: It was not happenstance that I was at the Iranian Embassy on May 22, 2000 as the IDF began their withdrawal from Lebanon and escaped from the plans of Hezbollah, the Iranian-backed terrorist group.
It was not until after details of May 22 were unclassified years later that anyone knew why the IDF were ordered to withdraw on May 22, 2000 instead of July 7, 2000.
Interestingly, before I received the invitation in the mail I had never heard of "Christ Jesus Ministry, Inc..” And, to this day I still don't know who gave my name to the man who invited me to the gathering. As the invitation indicates, the purpose of the gathering was in regard to a Convocation to be held in Washington, D.C. a year later in May of 2001. The gathering had absolutely nothing to do with the IDF withdrawing from the Security Zone. In fact, no one even mentioned Israel that night. Nonetheless, the “Christ Jesus Ministry, Inc.” was what the Lord used to open the door for me to be at the Iranian Embassy to intercede in prayer for the IDF as they were withdrawing from the Security Zone. |

This confirms that:
1. The date I was at the Embassy: May 22, 2000 is the same date the IDF began to withdraw from Lebanon, and 2. The invitation gives 3003 Massachusetts Avenue, NW, Washington as the address where the gathering was held which is easily verifiable as the address of the Iranian Embassy
It’s interesting that the gathering was held to pray for a Convocation that would not even be held until one year later.

Below is a picture of me standing in the doorway of the Iranian Embassy on May 22, 2000. You can see the house number “3003” above my head. And, there are pictures of the Iranian Embassy online that will verify that the doorway I am standing is indeed the doorway of the Iranian Embassy.
It was not until after I left the Embassy that I found out that the IDF actually began their withdrawal from the Security Zone in Lebanon while I was at the Embassy interceding for their safe withdrawal from Lebanon’s Security Zone.
There is a Scriptural basis as to why the Lord had me at the Embassy at that particular time – Daniel 10 and Ephesians 3
It is a well known fact that when Diplomats are inside their Embassy and grounds they consider themselves as being on their own countries soil. In other words, when I was at the Iranian Embassy on May 22-23, 2000, spiritually speaking, it was as good as actually being in Iran. |

The Symbolism of the Door of the Iranian Embassy
In Scripture, Gates (Doors) were places of authority. Doors which are symbolic of a Gate represented the city or in this case the Country of Iran.
It was not just happenstance that the Lord led me to stand in the doorway (gateway) of the Iranian Embassy when I spoke into the spiritual realm as the IDF began to withdraw from the Security Zone through another gate – the “Fatima Gate”/”Good Gate.”
In Matthew 16:18 we find that as Christ stood in front of the gates of hell He declared that the “gates of hell” would not prevail against His church.
Jeremiah 17:19 19 This is what the LORD said to me: “Go and stand in the gates of Jerusalem, first in the gate where the king goes in and out, and then in each of the other gates.

In 2017 when this “Shutterstock” picture on the left was taken, Ruth Schofield was no longer residing at the Iranian Embassy, and once again the Embassy was vacant.
When you compare the picture of the Iranian Embassy taken by “Shutterstock” with the below picture of me – it’s obvious that the doorway I am standing in is the same doorway shown by “Shutterstock.”

The first paragraph confirms that like everyone else around the world – Hezbollah believed that the IDF would withdraw in July. And, it was their plan to sabotage the withdrawal and launch an attack on the IDF as they were withdrawing on July 7th.
Needless to say, they were probably quite surprised and disappointed when their plans to turn the withdrawal into an inferno were thwarted.

Prime Minister Barak made the unexpected decision to begin evacuation on the same evening they were meeting: May 22, 2000
In the meeting the Prime Minister announced that he had ordered IDF chief of staff Mofaz and OC Northern Command Gabi Ashkenazto to complete “their preparations to withdraw all IDF forces and prepare them to redeploy starting that same night: May 22
Mofaz’s reaction is telling: Mofaz almost fell off his chair he was so shocked.
The article goes on to report that the IDF withdrew without casualties, which needless to say, was according to God’s plan.

Praise the Lord that Hezbollah did not succeed as they had planned, which was to sabotage the withdrawal.
For some, the question remained if Barak had erred by not ordering the assassination of Mughnlyeh.
However, at the end of the day, Barak’s decision was the righteous decision when he chose to begin the withdrawal of the IDF on the evening of May 22, 2000 rather than order the assassination of Mughnlyeh!

Without a doubt, Prime Minister Barak’s heart was in the hand of the Lord on May 22, 2000!

Israel’s Early Withdrawal from the Security Zone Surprised Everyone, even the IDF
The sudden and rapid redeployment of the IDF’s forces surprised and shocked the world. Interestingly, the sudden change of plans even surprised the IDF. It wasn’t until 16 years later that the reason for the decision became public knowledge. In 2016, IDF soldier Brigadier General Amos Gilboa published the book, "The True Story of how Israel left Lebanon (May 2000) codenamed: ‘Dawn’" in which he wrote about secret internal research he did at the time for Israel's intelligence community. According to General Gilboa’s account in his book, even IDF Chief of Staff Shaul Mofaz, "almost fell off his chair he was so shocked" when Prime Minister Barak told him to prepare to withdraw all IDF forces the night of May 22, 2000 - the same night of their meeting.
This account is credible because it is from a ranking official who was an eye witness with firsthand knowledge of the intelligence and the report to the Prime Minister. The following is an excerpt from A Biography of Amos Gilboa:
"Amos Gilboa (1939) has served in a variety of capacities in the Israeli intelligence community for fifty years. He started his career in Israeli military intelligence, both as a field and staff officer, and held several senior positions in the Intelligence Corps and the Intelligence Department of the Israeli Defense Force (IDF) General Staff. His last military position was head of the Research Division, at the rank of Brig. General, within the IDF Intelligence Branch.”
The following excerpt is from the above article from the "Jerusalem Post" that was based on General Gilboa’s book:
"Hezbollah believed that the IDF would withdraw in July of the same year, and the visits by the organization's senior figures were being taken in order to come up with a plan to sabotage the withdrawal and launch an attack on the retreating troops. Military intelligence and Mossad managed to gather highly accurate intel on the Shi'ite organization's intentions. 'They wanted to turn the withdrawal into an inferno,' says Brig-Gen (res.) Amos Gilboa. ….. The 'repertoire that Hezbollah's commanders planned included rocket launches, gunfire at the IDF soldiers, setting off at roadside bombs and car bombs, and sending out suicide bombers."
Needless to say, the Lord frustrated the plans of Hezbollah so that their hands couldn't carry out their plans.
Job 5:12 12 He frustrates the devices of the crafty, So that their hands cannot carry out their plans. NKJV
Isaiah 19:3 reveals that God will "destroy the counsel" of the enemy.
It goes on to reveal that even Mofaz, the IDF Chief of Staff was so shocked at Barak's abrupt withdrawal from the Security Zone that he almost fell off his chair:
"Barak kept the decision of the timing of the withdrawal close to his vest. ….. he gathered the commanders of the IDF on the evening of May 22. ….. In the meeting he announced that he had ordered IDF chief of Staff Mofaz and OC Northern Command Gabi Ashkenazi to complete 'their preparations to withdraw all IDF forces and prepare them to redeploy starting tonight.”
"Mofaz almost fell off his chair he was so shocked,” Gilboa writes.
And, those who understand the Biblical principles of Ephesians 3:10, Ephesians 6:12 and 2 Corinthians 10:4 understand that it wasn't until the night of May 22, 2000 when the IDF started to withdraw from the Security Zone that the principalities operating behind Iranian-backed Hezbollah realized that the Lord had foiled their plans to turn the IDF's withdrawal into an inferno on July 7, 2000 when they thought the IDF would withdraw from the Security Zone.
Satan is not omniscient - only God is!
Ephesians 3:10 10 [The purpose is] that through the church the complicated, many-sided wisdom of God in all its infinite variety and innumerable aspects might now be made known to the angelic rulers and authorities (principalities and powers) in the heavenly sphere. Amplified Bible, Classic Edition
2 Corinthians 10:3-5 3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: 4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) 5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; KJV
Ephesians 6:11-12 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. KJV
In other words, even the principalities that were operating behind the Iranian-backed Hezbollah had to be surprised that Prime Minister Barak gave the order that the IDF were to start withdrawing on the night of May 22, 2000. That also means that until Prime Minister Barak gave the order, and that I arrived at the Iranian Embassy at the same time, the principalities in the spiritual realm didn't really know why the Lord opened the door for me to be at the Iranian Embassy on May 22 and May 23, 2000 rather than on July 7, 2000 when Hezbollah was planning on destroying the IDF as they withdrew.
The Manifold Wisdom of God is made known by the Church to the principalities and powers in the heavenly places - that is "WHY" I was at the Iranian Embassy on May 22-23, 2000!
And, this is the manifold Wisdom of God:
Why I was at the Iranian Embassy – to Make Known the Manifold Wisdom of God
As a Believer in Christ Jesus, I was there to make known the manifold wisdom of God to the principalities and powers in the spiritual realm that I was there interceding on the behalf of the SLA and the IDF because through the Cross, the walls of hostility between the Jew and Christian were torn down and that we are one. That through Jesus Christ the promise made to Abraham extended to Gentile Believers like myself. Ephesians 2:14-16 and Ephesians 3:6-10.
In Ephesians 2:14-19, the great Apostle Paul describes how Christ broke down the wall between Jews and Gentiles and made them into one people through his death on the cross.
And, in Ephesians 3:8-10 the Apostle Paul informs the Church that it is through the Church that the manifold wisdom of God might be known to the principalities and powers in the heavenly realm. And, the mystery of Christ is that in His death on the cross Christ purchased and formed a new people, a Church made up of Jews and Gentiles. Both are heirs of God's promises, His mercy, and His grace. Christ broke down the dividing wall of hostility between the Jew and Gentiles - putting to death the hostility we once had towards each other. That now the Gentiles are fellow heirs, members of the same body, and partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel.
And now that this mystery has been made known to the Church - it is through the Church that this manifold wisdom of God to unite Jew and Gentile into one body is to be made known to the principalities and powers in the spiritual realm.
And, that's WHY I was at the Iranian Embassy as the IDF withdrew from the Security Zone - to make known to the Prince of Persia and the powers in the spiritual realm - the manifold wisdom of God as revealed in Ephesians 2:14-22 and Ephesians 3:8-10.
While I was at the Iranian Embassy, facing in the direction of Israel, I stood in the doorway of the Embassy and spoke a creative word into the spiritual realm for the "Prince of Persia," the principality operating behind Hezbollah, the Iranian-backed enemies of Israel, to move back as the IDF literally moved out of the Security Zone and not to follow them into Israel.
When I spoke a creative word into the spiritual realm for the principalities and powers in the heavenlies to back away and let the IDF withdraw from the Security Zone back into the safety of Israel, is an example how the manifold wisdom of God becomes a "Living Word.”
That is "WHY" I was at the Iranian Embassy! To make known to the principalities and powers in the spiritual realm that through the death of Christ Jesus that the Jewish people and Christians are part of the same body and share in the same blessings. That the walls of hostility between the Jews and Christians have been brought down. I could only intercede for the IDF because there is no hostility between me and the Jewish people. According to God's Word, we are one. That is "WHY" I was at the Iranian Embassy to make the many-sided wisdom of God known to the Prince of Persia as the IDF withdrew from the Security Zone.
And, keep in mind, the SLA, Israel's allies in the Security Zone, was made up mostly of Christians - and that was not just happenstance! It is one more example of how God's word in the context of Ephesians 2:14-19 and Ephesians 3:6-10 became a "Living Word.”
We may never know if any of the Jewish soldiers converted to Christianity while defending the Security Zone or after withdrawing back into Israel. But, we can be sure of this: that they heard the Gospel message of Jesus Christ.
The friendship between the Jewish IDF and the Arab Christian SLA was a manifestation of the peace between the Jews and Christians that Paul spoke of in Ephesians 2:17. And, just as the SLA befriended the Jewish people, we are to demonstrate the wisdom of God's mysterious plan in our own personal lives.

And, so it was with the South Lebanese Army (SLA) who fought alongside the IDF

The Creative Word: a Spiritual Reminder of the Manifold Wisdom of God
Satan Falls like Lighting and Will Continue to Fall until the End Comes
The Church has and will always demonstrate to the Israelis that we are Israel's most loyal and trustworthy "Spiritual" allies.
And, whenever a Christian speaks a creative word into the spiritual realm – it will always be a reminder to the principalities and powers in the heavenlies that it is through the church that the manifold wisdom of God is now made known. The knowledge that Christ's death on the Cross broke down the dividing walls of hostility between the Jews and the Church making them one body. That now the Gentiles are fellow heirs, members of the same body, and partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel. And, this creative word will be spoken into the heavenly realm again and again until Christ returns.
And, every time we speak a creative word into the spiritual realm or share the Gospel of Jesus Christ – just as Jesus saw Satan fall like lighting (Luke 10) Satan will continue to fall until the end comes. |
